The recycling unit

Following several years of intensive research and development and multi million Euro investments, Gypsum Recycling International created the first revolutionising and patented recycling unit back in 2001.

The first version of the recycling units is made on one mobile trailer and has a capacity of 100.000 tons. It is 24 meters long, 4 meters high and have a width of 3 meters. It weighs 47 tons, but can still be transported on ordinary road by normal trucks.

Continued research and development and accumulation of the experience with the version 1, led to the creation of the next version of the recycling units in 2005. The new units, of which one is European and the other is American based, are called XL Recycling Units to reflect that they have an even higher capacity than version 1. They consist of two trailers to assure that they can be transported from processing facility to processing facility on normal roads with no special permits in all countries.

New construction waste as well as demolition waste

Gypsum Recycling International’s patented and proprietary recycling technology does not only handle gypsum blocks and plasterboard waste from new constructions and production scrap from the original manufacture of the virgin gypsum products, but more importantly our technology is designed and constructed to successfully deal with all kinds of “old” waste from demolition and reconstruction activities.

At such sites nails, screws and other impurities are often found in the gypsum waste, and the plasterboards are covered with various kinds of wall coverings. With the special technology embedded in our system, such waste is no more difficult for us to handle and process than new construction waste.

Key features

The recycling units produced by Gypsum Recycling International are based on proprietary technology and patents, and has the following characteristics:

  • Produces recyclable gypsum powder — which is a low cost, high value raw material for the gypsum/plasterboard manufacturers

  • Handles new construction waste as well as demolition waste

  • Separates the paper and all impurities/foreign objects away from the gypsum core

  • Fully automated with automatic controls and sensors

  • Are very compact and takes up limited space in the height
  • Are almost noiseless

  • Leave virtually no paper in the powder and no gypsum on the paper residual Creates very little dust during operation

THE PAPER

The paper facing on both
sides of the plasterboard
makes up almost 6% of
the weight of the board.
As we seperate this from
the gypsum core, a pure
gypsum powder can be
made from the waste.
Gypsum Recycling Inter-
national has the techno-
logy to secure this and
our customers can use up
to 25% of our powder in
their raw materials mix.
The paper residual is also
reused in composting,
heat generation or as a
raw material for building
materials.
