Plasterboard

When Gypsum Recycling International first introduced the possibilities of recycling plasterboard waste at the Global Gypsum Conference 2003 in Barcelona, plasterboard recycling as well as Gypsum Recycling International had a relatively short life story. In Barcelona, we launched our win-win business model to the plasterboard industry internationally. Since then there has been rapid development.

The win-win business model:

  • Gypsum Recycling International will take care of all aspects of establishing the recycling of plasterboard system

  • The plasterboard industry will use the recycled gypsum powder which Gypsum Recycling International will sell at a price well below that of virgin gypsum raw materials

  • The plasterboard industry will not need to make any investments to become involved

  • The plasterboard industry gets the benefit of an improved environmental image by becoming involved.

Successful plasterboard recycling

When Gypsum Recycling International A/S in 2001 launched its so-called Scandinavian Recycling System it provided the market with a complete new solution to plasterboard recycling. The system was based on practical knowledge of how modern recycling systems work in order to be successful, rather than on old-fashioned thinking on how recycling can be forced through via laws or regulations. Thus, the Scandinavian System was and is based on creating win-win situations for the plasterboard industry, the recycling company and the end users of plasterboards.

By focussing on how to drive down the cost of recycling, primarily through lowering of the transportation costs, recycling can be made into an attractive alternative to disposal at landfills. Not by banning of plasterboard waste at landfills, but by providing advantages for all parties involved.

That’s why Gypsum Recycling International A/S since then has won contracts with all the top 5 major plasterboard companies in the world; USG, BPB, Knauf, Lafarge and National Gypsum, to serve them in various countries. Today we have contracts covering more than 20 different plasterboard plants in 7 different countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Holland, England, Ireland and the US) - more than anybody else in the world!
