Recycling of gypsum board

Recycling of gypsum board is more developed in some countries than others. Gypsum Recycling International has successfully implemented gypsum board recycling facilities in 10 countries on three continents.

One of our most positive experiences is the Danish market, where presently approx. 80% of all gypsum waste in Denmark is being recycled by Gypsum Recycling International. This recycling rate is the highest in the world for any voluntary gypsum recycling system and is increasing despite the fact that landfilling of gypsum waste is not banned in Denmark. The users of the system simply do it because of the economic and environmental advantages this gives them.

A durable solution

Today, global warming and climate changes are some of the most important issues occupying the authorities all over the world. As landfills are the main producer of the greenhouse gas methane, there is little doubt that in the future the authorities will be implementing strong measures to avoid landfilling of any kind. Especially as methane is responsible for 20-30% of the global warming and climate changes that occur.

Gypsum Recycling International's recycling system offers an attractive solution for the gypsum board industry to get involved in recycling without having to make any investments. We call it the win-win business model:

  • Gypsym Recycling International will take care of all aspects of establishing the system to recycle gypsum board

  • The industry will use the recycled gypsum powder which Gypsum Recycling International will sell at a price well below that of virgin gypsum raw materials

  • The industry will not need to make any investments to become involved.
