Recycling of wallboard

Gypsum Recycling International has developed a system for recycling of wallboard, which enables the wallboard industry to become involved in the recycling of wallboard without having to make any investments. Aside from an improved environmental image, the industry also benefits when using the recycled gypsum powder coming from the recycling of wallboard, which Gypsum Recycling International will sell at a price well below that of virgin gypsum raw materials.

The pressure from the authorities to decrease the creation of greenhouse gases is growing every day and therefore the disposal of waste at landfills is becoming increasing difficult. The incentives to increase recycling of wallboard activities are therefore becoming stronger and stronger.

Our recycling concept

According to the traditional thinking increased recycling activities will only occur if the end users are forced by law or regulation to do so. However, Gypsum Recycling International's concept is based on the idea that the end users will change behaviour if it is easy and it is profitable to do so.

It is therefore a cornerstone of Gypsum Recycling International’s system that if the end users are segregating and sending the wallboard waste to recycling, they should have a financial advantage compared to sending it to landfill. Gypsum Recycling International generally offers a 20-30% cost advantage to the end users compared to the cost of landfilling.

At the other end of the cycle, the wallboard industry will use the recycled gypsum powder at a price well below that of virgin gypsum raw materials. This is what we call a win-win business model.
